MERANO. A new attack in the area of Merano railway station it happened on Saturday afternoon.

It was just after 5pm when, according to the first reconstructions of the episode, a 30 year old Nigerian citizen it would have been attacked by an individual, perhaps North Africanwho would have it hit on the head with a stone. According to some versions, a blade, a knife, also appeared.

The stone would have provoked the thirty-year-old African an open wound of 2-3 centimeters. Bleeding, the man apparently moved towards the public toilets where he was rescued and assisted by a White Cross team.

The police arrived immediately and started investigations, first of all trying to retrace the escape route taken by the attacker.

The episode, to be better defined in detail and clarified regarding possible causes at its origin, was reported in the station park area, in viale Europa, not far from the kiosk between the green area and the bus yard , therefore, as mentioned, in the same area where last Tuesday, 12 March, a 32-year-old man from Merano with a South Tyrolean mother and Tunisian father was approached by four people apparently of North African origin (three men and a woman) and he had been the victim of a stabbing perhaps attributable to sentimental reasons: one blow had hit him in the abdomen, another two in the back.

The man was admitted to the Tappeiner hospital in conditions that required two surgeries. Now, fortunately, he has recovered.

What is clearly worrying are the episodes themselves and their repetition every few days, but also the time in which they allegedly occurred, last Tuesday around 1pm, the day before yesterday mid-afternoon, when the entire station area was very popular.

In the first case, it seems that the offensive weapon, a switchblade with a particularly long blade, was found near the area of the violence.

Previous. Furthermore, previously, two other facts were recalled which raised concern: a fire had broken out after an altercation between two illegal occupants of the former Alla Torre hotel in Maia Bassa, while another quarrel with mutual stabbing had involved two foreigners in via Mainardo, in the courtyard that connects to the Kloster passage.

Culture against violence. Regarding safety in the city and in particular in the station park, the opposition Greens have asked for «measures that really increase the safety of citizens such as the organization of different cultural events to make it more attractive. The work of the East West Club in Parco Marconi in recent years demonstrates how it is possible to make public places that are sometimes unsafe in themselves safer and more attractive. The municipal administration should invest more convincingly in prevention work, translating this desire into adequate funding commensurate with the commitment.”
