A cherished Christmas atmosphere, defined by “the lights in children’s eyes and the scent of needles,” is central to the Kandráč family’s holiday celebrations, alongside a recent move and significant investment in a new home. Slovak multi-hyphenate Ondrej Kandráč, a violinist, singer, folklorist, and art director, recently shared insights into his family’s life and traditions with Lepšie Bývanie.
From Košice Roots to Bratislava Life
For years, Kandráč and his family resided in Košice. However, this year marked a significant change as they relocated to Bratislava. The move prompted reflection on his regional identity, with Kandráč affirming a deep connection to his origins. “No matter where I live, I will always report to my region,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of maintaining ties to his roots despite embracing a new chapter.
The family has quickly integrated into life in Bratislava, establishing a new routine that includes visits to the gym in Záhorská Bystrica and outings to Mariánka. These activities underscore a commitment to a balanced lifestyle within their new community.
A Home Born From Investment
What began as a simple land investment several years ago has blossomed into the Kandráč family’s permanent residence. Initially conceived as a financial venture, the project evolved as the family’s needs and desires shifted. The family ultimately invested hundreds of thousands into the construction and equipping of the home, a testament to their commitment to creating a space perfectly suited to their lives.
The villa is thoughtfully designed with a distinct separation of space. It features two wings – one dedicated to communal activities and the other providing private retreats for each family member. This intentional division ensures both togetherness and individual space. The kitchen and living room serve as the central hubs for family interaction, fostering a sense of connection and shared experience.
The Essence of Christmas for the Kandráčs
Beyond the physical space, the true spirit of Christmas for the Kandráč family lies in intangible elements. The holiday is defined by the joy reflected in children’s eyes and the evocative aroma of pine needles, traditions that are deeply cherished and passed down through generations.
Kandráč, whose parents are also accomplished artists – accordionist Milan Kandráč and singer Monika Kandráčová – and whose brother Milan is also a violinist, comes from a deeply artistic lineage. While details about his personal preferences were shared – including an apparent fondness for sweets – the focus remains on the enduring values of family and tradition that define their Christmas celebrations.
