New iPhones may feature portrait mode for videos

by time news

Users of the new iPhone models, which are expected to be presented to the public in early autumn, will be able to shoot video in portrait mode, Bloomberg reported, citing sources. This function is currently only available for photos. It allows you to take shots with focus on the main subject and blur the background in the so-called bokeh effect.

Portrait mode first appeared in the iPhone 7 Plus in 2016. In new models not yet presented by Apple, a feature called Cinematic Video will allow you to change the intensity of the blur even after recording video using the “smartphone depth sensor”.

In addition, the company plans to improve the quality of videos by introducing the ProRes format. The innovation is similar to the ProRAW format found on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max and provides more flexible options for editing exposure, color and white balance in photos. As a result, users will be able to record videos in HD and 4K resolution. Bloomberg clarifies that this format is commonly used by professional video editors in movies and is not intended for the mass market, in part due to the large file sizes. As with ProRAW, ProRes may only be available for Pro models.

Finally, Apple wants to equip new smartphones with advanced artificial intelligence-powered filters. Unlike the standard effects that appeared in 2016, new ones can be applied not to all photos, but only to individual objects. As a result, users will be able to adjust the temperature of the picture while maintaining a neutral white color, make shadows “deeper”, work with contrasts and color balance. Apple believes that all of this will allow for more realistic shots.

Visually, the new iPhones will be similar to last year’s models. So, the design of the gadgets and the screen size will remain – 5.5 or 6.1 inches for the standard iPhone and 6.1 or 6.7 inches for the Pro version. The new models will incorporate the A15 processor, reduce the cutout for the front camera and speaker. The refresh rate of the display will increase. This will make scrolling smoother, according to Bloomberg.

It is assumed that new models of the iPhone Apple will present in September. At the same time, Bloomberg recalled that last year the traditional presentation was postponed to October due to another outbreak of the coronavirus. The agency admits that the presentation of new products will take place online. The corporation declined to comment on the information received by the publication.
