After the experience with covid 19 pandemic, the alarms went off in the government who decided to take action to counter the spread of the disease. Among them, specialized agents were mobilized towards the country’s borders, and biosecurity reinforcements were requested in commercial farms, since the way in which the virus spreads is by infecting birds, which, when later ingested by humans, produce a high degree of mortality. Organisms like the National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (SENASA) and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) They are also working on the situation.

“It is essential to work on early detection and early warning, through rapid notification of any bird mortality, and for this it is essential to work together and add the efforts of the private sector, where biosecurity measures are very important, and of the community, who can notify any suspicion,” the vice president of the Senate told the media, Rodolfo Acerbi.

Last week, Senasa ordered reinforcement of epidemiological surveillance on the northern border of Argentina to prevent avian influenza (AI) from entering the country, following the detection of the disease in the Cochabamba department, in the Bolivian center. For this, a team from the organization traveled to Salta and Jujuy to reinforce the work on the northern border, bordering the neighboring country. Specialized agents from the National Directorate of Animal Health were also mobilized to those regions.

Meanwhile, the government highlighted the importance of communicating the situation and severity of the disease to the population and the productive sector. It is necessary to report any finding of birds presenting symptoms associated with the disease.

In the rest of the continent, outbreaks have been reported in Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, as well as the United Kingdom.
