A new app is intended to simplify the payment process for warning fines: then the officers simply collect the money using their cell phone. These are the reasons.
In Germany, too, people are increasingly relying on cashless alternatives – now the payment process for traffic tickets could change fundamentally: If you are caught by the police speeding and waved out, the officers should in future collect the ticket using your cell phone. A corresponding app is being developed, the responsible state office for central police services (LZPD) confirmed upon request.
“In the future, the new technology is intended to replace the payment terminals previously used and enable cashless collection of warnings, security deposits and arrest warrants via the official smartphone used by the officers of the North Rhine-Westphalia police,” said a spokesman.
They rely on the “Tap-To-Pay” method, which is familiar from retail: For example, if you hold a debit or credit card to the police cell phone, the transfer is carried out contactlessly. “Using a QR code, payment receipts can be accessed online and printouts can be avoided on site,” explained the LZPD spokesman.
“On the one hand, the new process simplifies the work of the emergency services, and on the other hand, the NRW Police’s digital strategy is further developed in terms of the use of mobile applications,” emphasized the spokesman: “The use of existing hardware and software and the elimination of rented payment terminals also reduces the burden the state budget.”
