Construction works on the reconstruction of the Dzintari railway overpass began in March, closing both right-hand lanes for traffic in the direction from Riga and organizing traffic in two lanes on the left side of the overpass. During the reconstruction works on the right side of the overpass, steel safety barriers, steel protective shields in the spans above the railway have been installed and a new rainwater drainage system has been built. During the reconstruction works, the number of its deformation joints was reduced from 40 to 14, thus ensuring more comfortable driving conditions and significantly reducing traffic noise.

At the beginning of October, the construction works of the lighting system will be completed by installing 24 lighting pillars with energy-efficient LED lights.

Starting with the reconstruction works on the left side of the overpass in the direction from Riga to Majorie, traffic organization changes will be introduced from October 14, providing that the movement of cars in both directions is ensured in one lane along the rebuilt right side of the overpass in the direction from Riga. The permitted speed limit is set – up to 30 kilometers per hour.

The municipality calls on motorists to be careful and to pay attention to the changes in traffic organization and posted road signs.

The traffic organization established during the construction works on the left side of the overpass will be in effect throughout the winter period until the completion of the construction works, which is planned for the end of 2025. This year, until the winter period, it is planned to carry out the dismantling of the asphalt concrete covering on the left side of the overpass, in order to promptly start the reconstruction works of the roadway in the spring of next year and finish it by the autumn.

Until the winter period of this year, the construction works will also continue under the overpass, including the restoration of the overpass span beams and support structures. The full execution of these works is planned to be completed by the summer of 2026.

By November, it is planned to complete the reconstruction works of Rīgas Street, Miera Street, Edinburgas Avenue, Dīķu Street and Meža Avenue, as well as pedestrian paths and bike lanes. Construction of rainwater drainage system, lighting and video surveillance system networks, as well as partial construction of pavements, has been carried out. 32 new car parking spaces have been built in the section of Meža prospect near the Dzintari forest park, of which two parking spaces are intended for people with mobility impairments.

Next year, the construction of the planned car parking spaces and walkways under the overpass will be completed, providing the opportunity for pedestrians and cyclists to easily and safely get from the Dzintari railway station in Edinburga prospect to the Dzintari forest park in Meža prospect. A total of 62 parking spaces are planned to be built under the overpass, including 26 car parking spaces and 12 parking spaces for tourist buses on the Miera Street side, while 24 car parking spaces are planned to be built on the Edinburga Prospect side, two of which are intended for people with mobility impairments. Eight video surveillance cameras, 49 sets of bicycle racks, benches, waste bins, information and information signs will be installed under the overpass.

It has already been reported that the cost of construction works for the reconstruction of the Dzintari railway overpass and adjacent streets, pedestrian paths, bicycle paths and parking lots is 9.25 million euros. Construction works are performed by the suppliers association “RTBB”, construction supervision by SIA “Firma L4”, while author supervision is provided by SIA “3C”.
