The ⁢New York Lions from Braunschweig lit a candle on their social media⁣ channels in memory of Friedrich Knapp. The entrepreneur who owns⁤ the fashion chain “New Yorker” is considered the owner of the ⁢German record champions. Knapp died on Sylt ⁣after an illness‌ at the age of 73.

Knapp leaves behind three children and his partner. The company he founded ⁢has developed from a German fashion retailer ⁤into a global group that today employs around 23,000 people in more ‌than 1,200 branches in 47 countries. His shops are also characteristic of many German ⁤city centers.⁤ Management praised ‌Knapp as a visionary and courageous “thoroughbred entrepreneur” who,⁣ through his actions, made the “New Yorker” a leading global fashion company.

The mayor⁣ of Braunschweig Thorsten Kornblum praised Knapp as an outstanding entrepreneur who not only built a‌ successful label, but was also strongly committed to the⁤ city, especially in the areas of sports, culture and child support. Knapp lived his own success story to the ‍end. ‌Kornblum also praised Knapp’s foresight,⁣ as he decided the company’s succession ⁣during his lifetime. His daughter Sophie⁤ Knapp represents the family‍ on the supervisory board as deputy chairperson and is expected to continue her father’s work.
