Howe Provides Injury Updates Ahead of Manchester United Clash, Nearing 200-Game Milestone

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe delivered encouraging news on several key players ahead of the Magpies’ crucial Premier League fixture against manchester United at Old Trafford, while also reflecting on his approaching 200th game in charge. The team is targeting a sixth victory in their last seven meetings against the Red Devils.

The updates come following a recent break in the schedule – the longest between games for Newcastle, excluding international breaks, since August. Howe acknowledged the unusual respite, stating, “It’s a strange feeling for us because we’re in that rhythm of playing and, very quickly, turning that around to prepare for another game almost straight away.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum while allowing players to recover, adding,”It’s been a good time but also an important time that we don’t lose our rhythm and that we feel regenerated.”

Livramento Injury Update: Cautious Optimism

Concerns surround right-back Tino livramento, who missed Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea after sustaining a knee injury during last week’s 2-1 win against Fulham in the Carabao Cup. However,Howe expressed cautious optimism, stating,”It’s a difficult one because there’s quite a bit of data on Tino. We’re waiting to get full clarification but, hopefully, it’s not serious at all and he can resume training quite quickly.” He stressed the need for confirmation before making definitive statements, adding, “Before confirming that, we want to be sure it’s right. We haven’t got clarity on that but hopefully it’s good news.”

Botman and Pope’s Return on the horizon

Positive news also emerged regarding defender Sven Botman and goalkeeper Nick Pope. Howe indicated Botman is progressing well, saying, “Sven will be in the category of the group of players that are doing well. We hope to get him back pretty soon. When that day is, I’m not 100% sure.” He clarified that botman hasn’t yet rejoined full training but remains optimistic about his recovery.

Regarding Pope’s availability for the match against Manchester United, Howe stated, “There’s a chance. He hasn’t trained yet but we hope he might train today so let’s see how he dose.”

Assessing Manchester United’s Improvement

Looking ahead to the match, Howe acknowledged the improvements made by Manchester United, who currently sit three points above Newcastle in seventh place. “Statistically, thay’re a lot stronger than last year,” he noted. “They’ve seen big improvements in their general performances. They’ve been competitive and, attacking wise, they have some big threats.” He anticipates a challenging encounter, adding, “I think it’ll be a really good game, a tough game, for us and a good prospect at Christmas to enjoy the magnitude of these games.”

Ramsey’s Progress and Future Impact

Howe also highlighted the positive impact of Jacob Ramsey since joining the club, especially praising his performance against Chelsea. “That was his best game for us, against Chelsea,” Howe said. “Athletically, very good and some of the numbers he produced in that game were elite in terms of the benchmark for midfielders.” He acknowledged Ramsey’s previous injury setback at Leeds, where he twisted his ankle, disrupted his momentum, but believes the player is returning to his best form. “I think the next step for him is to start impacting in the final third with goals and assists,” Howe concluded.

as Howe prepares for his 200th game as Newcastle United head coach, appointed in November 2021, the focus remains firmly on securing a positive result against a revitalized Manchester United side.
