Dana Drábová will remain the chairwoman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB). Today, the government appointed her to the position with effect from November 1 for the next five years. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (STAN) stated this at a press conference after the government meeting. Drábová has led the office continuously since 1999, making her the longest-serving civil servant in the highest position in the country.

SÚJB performs the state administration for the control of the safety of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation in the Czech Republic. The office has been operating since 1993. The government announced the selection procedure for the head of the SÚJB at the end of August. The reason was the obligation from the recently praised amendment to the Service Act, according to which it is necessary to re-select senior officials of offices who have been in office for more than five years.

The Aktuálně.cz server said on Monday that Drábová was the only registered candidate in the selection process. The current boss was approved by the selection committee as a suitable applicant after the interview.

Changes also at the head of other offices

In previous months, the state also announced selection procedures for other heads of state offices, for example the chairman of the State Material Reserves Administration (SSHR), the Czech Mining Office (ČBÚ) and the Industrial Property Office (ÚPV), the Czech Land Survey and Cadastral Office, and the Stamp Office.

According to an earlier statement by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO), interviews have already taken place with individual applicants, the office then selects the most suitable candidates, which they then submit to the government for approval. The press conference after the government meeting did not say whether the cabinet had already dealt with them today.

The government also dealt with aid in the amount of 15.7 million crowns for Ukraine. In the Medevac health care support project managed by the Ministry of the Interior, five million is to be used to improve specialized care for children in one of the hospitals in Lviv. thanks to the contribution, the availability of hot water should be ensured there throughout the year, for example. The additional money is intended to help raise awareness of the population about the risks of mines and unexploded ordnance and to improve the technical equipment of the Ukrainian criminal police.

“The goal is to stabilize the situation as much as possible in the areas of Ukraine where there is no longer fighting. With these projects, we are helping to improve not only security, but also the living conditions of local residents,” said the Austrian.

Thanks to a million dollar donation from the Czech Republic, the West Ukrainian Center for Specialized Children’s Treatment in Lviv is to get a larger number of beds, the center will be partially reconstructed. Money from the Help on the spot program will help in assistance centers in western Ukraine with providing psychological and integration assistance to war refugees.
