Celebrini, Thompson, and MacKinnon Lead NHL Standouts in Historic Performances
A wave of record-breaking performances swept through the NHL on Sunday, December 8, 2025, as Macklin Celebrini celebrated a milestone game, Logan Thompson secured his 100th career victory, and several league leaders continued their dominant seasons.
Celebrini Reaches Century Mark with Three-Point Night
Macklin Celebrini (1-2—3) delivered a standout performance in his 100th NHL game, recording three points as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Carolina Hurricanes. The Sharks (14-13-3, 31 points) reached the 30-point mark in just 30 games, their fastest pace since the 2021-22 season.
Celebrini’s performance propelled him to impressive rankings among teenage players. He now boasts a career total of 40-66—106, surpassing Ted Kennedy (104) to become the seventh-leading teenage scorer in NHL history. He also moved ahead of Phil Housley (64) for the sixth-most assists among teenagers reaching 100 NHL games, trailing only hockey legends Wayne Gretzky (112), Sidney Crosby (83), Ron Francis (82), Dale Hawerchuk (72), and Steve Yzerman (67).
“This is a special moment for a young player like Celebrini,” a senior hockey analyst commented. “To reach these milestones so early in his career speaks volumes about his talent and potential.”
Celebrini’s seventh three-point game of the 2025-26 season ties him with Steve Yzerman (1984-85) and Bryan Trottier (1975-76) for the most such games by a teenager within the first 30 games of a season.
Thompson Secures 100th Win in Dominant Shutout
Logan Thompson etched his name in the record books on Sunday, securing his 100th career victory with a 39-save shutout. The performance propelled the Washington Capitals (18-9-3, 39 points) to a three-point lead over the Hurricanes at the top of the Eastern Conference. Thompson’s record now stands at 100-44-19 in 167 games, making him the third active goalie to reach 100 wins in as few games, behind only Igor Shesterkin (159) and Matt Murray (166).
League Leaders Shine: Oettinger, Sennecke, and MacKinnon
Beyond Celebrini and Thompson, several league leaders continued to demonstrate their dominance. Jake Oettinger, currently leading the league in wins, Beckett Sennecke, the rookie scoring leader, and Nathan MacKinnon, the points leader, all contributed to victories on Sunday.
Jake Oettinger made 27 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts to secure his 14th win of the season, overtaking Scott Wedgewood as the top goaltender. The Lakeville, Minnesota native tied the Stars/North Stars record for most wins after 20 games, a feat he also achieved last season alongside Jon Casey and Gilles Meloche.
Beckett Sennecke (1-1—2) was one of five Ducks players to record multiple points in a seven-goal outburst, exceeding the output of all other teams except Colorado, Florida, and Washington. With 9-15—24 points in 29 games, Sennecke currently holds the fourth-highest point total for a Ducks rookie after 30 games, behind Bobby Ryan, Paul Kariya, and Trevor Zegras. He has one game remaining to potentially climb this ranking and currently leads Montreal’s Ivan Demidov (6-16—22 in 28 games) in the rookie scoring race. Only Bobby Ryan has finished first in rookie scoring for the Ducks.
Finally, Nathan MacKinnon (24-25—49 in 29 games) recorded his 25th assist of the season, reaching 49 points before his 30th game for the eighth time in his career. He is now the fifth player in Avalanche/Nordiques history to achieve this milestone, joining Marian Stastny, Peter Forsberg, Peter Stastny, and Michel Goulet. Teammate Brent Burns (1-0—1) also made history, surpassing Nicklas Lidström to become the eighth most prolific defenseman in NHL history.
These performances underscore the dynamic nature of the 2025-26 NHL season and the emergence of a new generation of stars.
