Thiruvananthapuram / Kochi: The night restrictions will be tightened in the state tonight to celebrate the New Year. Police checks will be intensified after 10 p.m. No crowded event will be allowed after 10 p.m. Only go out for essentials. Those who go out should carry a self-prepared certificate. The regulation also applies to churches. Hotels, restaurants, bars and clubs have to close by 10 p.m. The night curfew came into effect in the state around 10 pm last night. Although the police yesterday avoided most of the draconian measures, including fines, there will be no compromise today. The nightly restriction is until Sunday, according to Omikron.
Strict regulation will affect hotels and clubs
Hotels and clubs have been hit hardest by the government’s night curfew and restrictions on DJ parties over the Omikron scare. Many of the tourists who were coming to the state for the New Year celebrations skipped bookings. More than half of the rooms in hotels are vacant.
The main reason is Kovid control and the police’s strict stance against drug use at DJ parties. Following the car accident in which Miss Kerala was killed, the police had imposed strict restrictions on DJ parties in the city of Kochi. The parties were also given a time limit of ten hours. Following this, the government imposed a night curfew.
Many of the DJ parties themselves refused to join the group after 10 pm. As the celebrations did not last till dawn, foreigners and tourists from other states started avoiding visiting Kerala. This is a major setback for hotels starting out of the lockdown.
The decision of the police and the government to strictly enforce the restrictions will also restrict public celebrations. Beaches and shopping malls. The government has ordered the appointment of sectoral magistrates in parks and clubs to control the celebrations. The rule is that after ten o’clock at night, you can go out only for those things. With this, New Year celebrations will have to be confined to the homes.
