Nike bought a virtual reality startup

by time news

Nike has announced the acquisition of RTFKT, a startup that specializes in the development and creation of virtual reality products. The amount of the deal was not disclosed. RTFKT was founded early last year and is focused on creating virtual clothing, shoes and other items for the video game industry and other virtual reality platforms. Nike says the deal reflects its commitment to “innovate and expand digital operations.”

Experts suggest the purchase of RTFKT fits in with Nike’s strategy to manufacture and sell virtual apparel and footwear for digital platforms, gamers and other consumers of virtual content.

Last month, it became known that Nike filed several applications for trademark registrations in the United States, which will allow the company to sell virtual branded apparel and shoes. On October 27 and 28, the United States Patent and Trademark Office received seven applications from Nike relating to the Nike, Just Do IT, Jordan and Air Jordan trademarks and images.
