Nine dead in bus attack in northern Pakistan

At least nine people have been killed and 25 others injured in a “terrorist” attack in which a bus was shot in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, in the part of Kashmir under Pakistani control. Among the deceased are two Pakistani soldiers.

The incident occurred in the town of Chilas around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, as explained by a police spokesman, Captain Arif Ahmad, quoted by the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’.

The bus was shot at and consequently collided head-on with a truck. “A regrettable incident has occurred, a cowardly act in which a bus that had left Gahkuch, in Ghizer, was attacked,” he said.

So far, five of the bodies have been identified. Initially eight deaths were reported, but one of the injured later died.

“The majority come from other areas of Pakistan such as Kohistan, Peshawar, Ghizer, Chilas, Roundu, Skardu, Mansehra, Swabi and one or two from Sindh,” he noted. Among the deceased is the driver of the truck, which caught fire due to the impact.

“The government will ensure that the terrorists involved in the attack are adequately punished and brought to justice. They will be arrested and detained in accordance with the law and will be given strict punishment,” said the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. , Hayi Gulbar Jan.
