Nishidhe aims to please the audience, no pretentiousness: Tara Ramanujan | Cinema | Deshabhimani

by time news

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM> Audience applause at national and international film festivals, many awards including the state film award… “Nishidho” directed by Tara Ramanujan and produced by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) won applause in the theaters and the state government also won.

Nishidho’s screenplay became a movie through the ‘Women Directed Cinema’ scheme created by the state government to support women directors. The film released on November 11. The film hit the leading theaters and KSFDC theaters of the state with confidence winning applause on the “big screen” including the 26th Kerala International Film Festival.

Tara Ramanujan

Tara Ramanujan won the KR Mohanan Award for Best Debut Director from India at the 26th Kerala International Film Festival for Nishidho. It was the second best film when the 52nd State Film Awards were announced. It was also selected as the best feature film at the 2022 Ottawa Indian Film Festival. Screened in the Indian Cinema Competition category at the 13th Bengaluru International Film Festival and at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival.

The director managed to make the film possible by doing justice to the script even during the difficult shooting days during the Covid era. The director says that his trips to Calcutta are the basis for Nishidho’s story. Tanmay Dhanania is playing another character in the film, which has Kani Kusumi as the lead. The theme of Nishidho is the relationship between a laborer who migrated to Kerala from West Bengal and a young Tamil woman and their life conflicts.

What were Nishido’s theatrical aspirations?

This film was not made in the hope of a theatrical hit. I didn’t want Housefull to run in theaters for months. Even though the audience was less, they wanted to like it. I need to be able to understand and enjoy the story I have to tell. I think it was successful. Another great thing is that the state government has given support and funding to women to make their voices heard and their ideas known to the world.

I felt a great responsibility when the script was selected by KSFDC. The aim was not to make the film a hit. The great joy is that apart from the festival goers, Nishidho has reached the common movie goers.

Did Nishidh satisfy the festival audience or was it accepted by the general public?

The soul of the movie is in the story. Nishidho’s story is that of ordinary people. This is a film that captures it like that. The audience will understand that story. It cannot be said that only one section can understand the film. Nishidho is a film without any song, dance or hyperbole as we generally see.

New scripts?

Three scripts are in hand. Some changes are being made in them. A new story is being written. My approach is to focus on the story. It will then be converted to the required format for the film.
