New Delhi – Shankar Mishra, who urinated on the body of a fellow passenger on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi, is out on bail. The Delhi court rejected the bail plea filed by him. Metropolitan Magistrate Komal Garg rejected Mishra’s plea. The petition was dismissed with the observation that it was not proper to grant bail to Mishra at this stage of the investigation.

He was arrested by the Delhi Police on Friday night, who was hiding in his sister’s house in Bengaluru. The Delhi Patiala House Court rejected the police’s request to remand the accused for 3 days and remanded Mishra to jail for 14 days.

After the police registered the case, Shankar Mishra, who turned off his phone and went into hiding, was communicating with his friends through social media. It was found to be in Bengaluru during a focused investigation. The use of a credit card at one place also helped the police. After receiving information that he was in Bengaluru, the Delhi Police reached there on Friday morning. Shankar’s face was clean shaven so as not to be easily recognised.

On the day of the incident, Air India suspended one of the 2 pilots and 4 cabin crew and issued a show-cause notice. Air India expressed regret over the incident and admitted that the matter could have been handled more efficiently. Air India was criticized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for failing to report the incident to the police.
