No law to take action against hotel: Collector to Chittaranjan MLA | PP Chitharanjan, Renu Raj

District Collector Dr. PP Chittaranjan said that no action can be taken on the complaint of PP Chittaranjan MLA that the hotel in Alappuzha ∙ Kanichukulangara was overcharged for food. Renu Raj informed. This is because it is illegal. The Collector said that the distress department has informed the Minister. The MLA’s complaint was investigated and a report was issued by the District Supply Officer. The issue was then discussed at the minister’s online meeting. The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the intensification of measures to control inflation.

The minister had lodged a complaint against a hotel in Kanichukulangara alleging that he was charged Rs 184 for five loaves of bread and two eggs. Chittaranjan’s complaint sought action against hotels in Alappuzha constituency for charging exorbitant prices. The MLA described her experience of having breakfast at a hotel in Kanichukulangara as follows:

‘If you increase the fan speed, the price is Rs 15 for a fly the size of a fly. 50 for giving an egg and a little gravy worth Rs. It’s not a star hotel. It is said to be an AC hotel but no AC. Price list not displayed. In some hotels you have to pay Rs 100 to have a vegetarian meal with two curries.

There are still regular hotels that charge Rs 5 for a cup of tea and Rs 30 for a meal. That’s when some people inflate prices to make a profit. ‘ The Collector directed the District Civil Supplies Officer to investigate and report on the MLA’s complaint. Renu Raj had informed.
