Chennai: In Chennai, the program of providing breakfast to corporation school students is starting in four zones. For this, an integrated cooking hall has been set up at six locations.

Across Tamil Nadu, the government has started a program to provide breakfast to the students of classes 1 to 5 studying in government schools. Accordingly, the scheme is being started in the first phase in 37 schools in four mandals namely Tiruvottiyur, Madhavaram, Thandaiyarpet and Rayapuram under the Education Department of Chennai Corporation. Out of this, 5,941 students of classes I to V are going to benefit.

For this purpose, the government has established an integrated cooking hall at 6 places. Accordingly, integrated kitchens have been set up at two places in Ennuar, Madhavaram, Kodunkaiyur, Korukuppet and Rayapuram.

In this regard, the Chennai Corporation officials said: “The possibility of preparing food for the students of the Corporation schools at Amma Canteen has been explored. However, the space is limited and as the regular Amma Canteen service will also be affected, food is being prepared at an alternative location.

These meals are delivered to school students between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. For all the students, eating plate and tumbler have been procured. Everyone, including the cooks, the food delivery staff, and the teachers who receive them and distribute them to the students, have been trained,” they said.
