As of this Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Secretariat became the General Secretariat of Public Integrity. This was ordered by President Daniel Noboa through Executive Decree 249.
The President declared public integrity as a national policy, aimed at achieving sustainable development objectives. In this sense, the Secretariat will be in charge of coordinating, managing, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the national public integrity policy in the Legislative Function.
Furthermore, among its functions will be to propose a National Public Integrity System in coordination with other State Functions. Likewise, he must advise and inform the President on anti-corruption matters.
It must also coordinate the formation of inter-institutional spaces to design, strengthen and implement public integrity strategies with other functions of the State. José Julio Neira will remain at the head of the institution.
The Anti-Corruption Secretariat was created in 2022 by then-president Guillermo Lasso. Among its functions were preventing and generating alerts about irregular acts in State institutions.
The new General Secretariat of Public Integrity will be part of the organic structure of the Presidency of the Republic./El Expreso
