I am praying for all students in the community and their loved ones. North Carolinians need to be safe wherever they are – especially in school.” He added that he had spoken with sheriff Kimbrough to offer support.

dr. Don Phipps, Superintendent of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, shared the news with profound sadness. “An altercation resulted in the injury of one student and the death of another,” he stated. “Our law enforcement partners are actively working on an investigation.” Dr. Phipps emphasized that violence has no place in schools and called on the community to offer “kindness and care” to students and staff.

Classes for North Forsyth High School students are canceled on December 10th, and staff are directed to report to the Education Building at 4801 Bethania Station Road, with the option to take leave. Counselors and support staff will be available at the Education Building to provide assistance to anyone in need.

Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines conveyed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the entire North Forsyth High School community. “The untimely departure of such a promising young life is a tragedy that touches us all,” he said. Mayor Joines announced a renewed focus on the city’s Youth Crime Reduction Initiative, with plans to engage with at least ten youth groups to gather insights and address the root causes of youth violence.
