Dallas, January 25, 2026 — A winter storm brought a blanket of snow to North Texas early Sunday morning, leaving approximately 23,000 customers without power, according to Oncor.
Thousands in North Texas are without electricity as a winter storm brings freezing temperatures and icy conditions.
- About 2,140 Oncor customers in Tarrant County and 861 in Dallas County are experiencing outages.
- Oncor has hired or contracted over 10,000 workers to respond to outages.
- The storm is testing the state’s power grid, recalling the deadly 2021 winter storm.
As of 7:20 a.m. Sunday, about 2,140 Oncor customers in Tarrant County and 861 customers in Dallas County were without power, according to the Oncor outage map. Across the state, 679 active outages are impacting roughly 23,000 customers, Oncor reported.
The energy company said it is working to restore electricity as a second wave of cold weather moves through the region. Oncor crews are responding to outages while navigating road hazards and the threat of ice accumulation, which can weigh down tree limbs and damage power lines.

Elsewhere in the state, about 1,200 customers in Lamar County, located in northeast Texas, and roughly 3,000 customers in Cherokee County, in central east Texas, are without power.
Why It Matters
The current storm is a significant test for the Texas power grid, particularly given the catastrophic failures during Winter Storm Uri in February 2021. That storm left millions without power for days and resulted in more than 240 deaths, according to official reports. The state has implemented some reforms since then, but the risk of widespread outages during extreme weather events remains a concern. Oncor, which delivers power to more than 4 million homes and businesses, according to a 2023 company report, has mobilized over 10,000 workers to address the current situation.
