The mayor of the Norwegian city of Vadso Wenche Pedersen asked the European Commission to allow the region to establish 26 hours a day. This was reported by Politico, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.

The head of a city in Norway‘s northernmost region, located above the Arctic Circle, explained that this decision is aimed at increasing time spent with family and attracting new residents to the region. In her address, she called on the EC to instruct the country’s authorities to allow the creation of a new time zone. “We like our lifestyle and we think it could be very interesting, especially for families with small children,” the mayor explained.

At the same time, Pedersen admitted that the exact mechanism of how the changes will occur has not been worked out. “I don’t think they’ll agree, so we haven’t thought through all the details,” she said. In turn, the representative of the European Commission noted that the issue of time zones is decided by countries independently, so it is unlikely that the EU will be able to satisfy the region’s request.
