The German contribution “Nothing New in the West” by Edward Berger has been nominated for an Oscar in the category best international film. This was announced by the Los Angeles Film Academy on Tuesday.

The German composer and pianist Volker Bertelmann is in the Oscar race with his composition for the anti-war film “Nothing New in the West”. This was announced by the Los Angeles Film Academy on Tuesday.

Bertelmann, known by the stage name Hauschka, was nominated for an Oscar in 2017 together with US colleague Dustin O’Halloran for the soundtrack to the film “Lion”. At the award ceremony, however, they went away empty-handed.

This time, four other composers are in competition with Bertelmann, including John Williams (“The Fabelmans”) and Justin Hurwitz (“Babylon”). The 95th Academy Awards are scheduled to take place in Hollywood on March 12th. (dpa)
