Nupes, an alliance of left-wing parties launched for the 2022 legislative elections, appears closer to breaking up every day. The leader of rebellious France Jean-Luc Mélenchon seems to be burying the alliance. “It has become clear that the point of no return has been crossed,” he wrote this Sunday in a long post published on his blog. Entitled “Killing the Father”, it looks at the fractures in the Nupes since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. LFI executives have repeatedly refused to qualify Hamas as a “terrorist” organization, causing strong divisions on the left.

For Jean-Luc Mélenchon, “the LFI bases therefore know that they must do without the deputies they elected a year ago”. “As the threat of dissolution becomes clearer with the deepening of the political crisis, I recommend that the ground be occupied immediately without pause around our local spokespersons,” he wrote on his blog.

The rebellious leader sees a “turning point for EELV and the PC (communist party)” which he took as a “real event, unforeseen for us”. “We expected something less frontally aligned on this subject at the time of the worst mass massacre in the region,” “given the history of these organizations being very attentive to the Palestinian cause,” he noted.

Criticism of the PS, the PC and EELV

Earlier in his text, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is very vehement towards the Socialist Party, a “party [qui] no longer has a head. For him, his first secretary Olivier Faure adopted an “illegible” and “incomprehensible” strategy. A few days ago, Jean-Luc Mélenchon already accused Olivier Faure of “breaking up Nupes for personal reasons. [son] topic about Israel/Palestine”. “For the PS, it’s not really a surprise,” the rebellious leader insisted again this Sunday.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon also attacks the secretary general of the communist party Fabien Roussel who takes “six hours to stammer out vague support for the CGT du Nord, criminalized because of its support for the Palestinians”. Ditto for the national secretary of EELV Marine Tondelier whom he accuses of “rejecting demonstrations of support for Palestine with the arguments of the National Rally”. “Certainly, in this case, there will have been a protest by activists. But the excuses subsequently stammered by their leader are pitiful and in many ways aggravate her case,” he added.

The rebellious leader ends his post by placing LFI at the heart of a “well-managed media stoning” and which “is not innocent”. “All this forms a landscape. I occupy a special place there since it involves eliminating me. Politically of course…” he said again.

This Monday, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is accused by Yaël Braun-Pivet of putting “a new target on his back”, after the rebel’s comments on the visit of the President of the National Assembly to Israel on Saturday and Sunday. He then reacted by denouncing “an absurd policing of words”.
