Her career spanned over two decades, during which she appeared in numerous hit daily soaps, showcasing her versatility and earning her a respected position within the television industry. She captivated audiences with memorable performances in popular shows such as Shaktimaan, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Reth, and Diya Aur Baati Hum.
The Turning Point: Loss and Financial Turmoil
In 2022, Alankar made the momentous decision to leave the entertainment industry, a choice reported by The Times of India. This decision wasn’t a sudden impulse, but rather the culmination of profound personal hardship. The actress experienced the consecutive losses of her mother and sister, compounded by a devastating financial setback stemming from the PMC Bank scam.
The PMC Bank crisis began in 2019 when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) dissolved the bank’s board and imposed strict restrictions on withdrawals after uncovering significant financial irregularities. This event left many depositors, including Alankar, in a precarious situation, with their savings inaccessible.
“After my savings got stuck in the bank. My mother’s and my sister’s deaths were the last straw,” Alankar revealed in an interview.”I had started disconnecting from the world before that. I was not interested in living this worldly life, so all those who were connected with me, I took their permission. They unwillingly agreed, and then I took to the spiritual path.”
Embracing a Life of Asceticism
Following her departure from Mumbai, alankar embarked on a three-year journey across India, seeking solace and clarity in a life detached from material possessions. She lived in caves, forests, and remote ashrams, enduring harsh conditions including frostbite, rat bites, and illness.Despite these challenges, she found peace and purpose in her spiritual practice.
“I wanted to experience life without comfort,” she stated. “Living close to nature brought me clarity.”
A Minimalist Existence and the Practice of bhikshatan
Today, as Peetambra Maa, Alankar leads a remarkably simple life. Her monthly expenses are estimated to be between Rs 10,000-Rs 12,000, and she occasionally practices bhikshatan – the practice of seeking alms. she views this practice as a means of overcoming ego and cultivating humility.
“There is also a practice called bhikshatan (asking for alms), which I observe a few times a year,” she explained to Telly talk. “I beg for alms and share that offering with God and my guru. It dissolves the ego. I live with four or five pairs of clothes. People who visit ashrams bring offerings, sometimes clothes too, and that is enough.”

Peetambra Maa now dedicates her life to encouraging others to embrace simplicity, humility, and faith.
