New Yorkers are still digging out from a historic blizzard that brought nearly two feet of snow to Central Park and record-breaking accumulations across the tri-state area, but the forecast isn’t offering much of a break. Another round of snow is expected Tuesday night, though forecasters say this system isn’t expected to pack the same punch as the recent storm. The question on many minds: are we getting another NYC snowstorm this week?
The National Weather Service is predicting 1 to 3 inches of snow across New York City, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and the Connecticut coast. Whereas the totals aren’t expected to be as high as the recent blizzard, inland areas could notice slightly higher accumulations. Commuters should be prepared for potential impacts to the Wednesday morning commute.
A Familiar Forecast, But Different Conditions
The upcoming storm follows a pattern eerily similar to the one that gripped the region earlier this week. Forecasters initially predicted 1 to 3 inches for that system, but it ultimately delivered 19.7 inches in Central Park – the ninth-largest snowfall in the park’s recorded history. The Long Island town of Islip, in Suffolk County, saw the highest accumulation with 31 inches. East Islip and Patchogue both received 30 inches, while Holbrook and Babylon reported over 29 inches. Parts of Staten Island likewise experienced more than two feet of snow.
However, the current conditions are different. A warm front is expected to move through the area on Wednesday, bringing a mix of light snow and rain. Any lingering precipitation should taper off by midday. Fortunately, the elements aren’t aligning for a major storm this time around, though officials caution that conditions can change quickly.
Looking Ahead: Another System on Thursday
Beyond Wednesday, another low-pressure system is expected to approach the region Thursday into Thursday night. This system could bring additional wintry precipitation, potentially in the form of light snow or a wintry mix inland. Details on this system are still developing, and forecasters expect to have a clearer picture in the coming days.

New Jersey Snow Totals
In New Jersey, Bergen County was particularly hard hit. Lyndhurst recorded 30.7 inches of snow, while Carlstadt received 30.5 inches. Leonia and Bogota both saw accumulations of over 29.5 inches, and Newark Airport reported 27.2 inches. A full list of snow totals can be found here.
Following the recent blizzard, which was the first of its magnitude to hit the New York City area in a decade, residents are now focused on recovery. Schools have reopened after a brief closure, but the cleanup continues across the region.
Looking ahead, the forecast calls for sunny and mild conditions into the weekend, with temperatures expected to rise and allow for significant melting. The next update on the potential for additional wintry precipitation will come as forecasters continue to monitor the system developing for Thursday and Friday.
