Paramakkudi: Due to increasing encroachment of roadside shops in Paramakkudi municipality, major streets including the big bazaar come to a standstill during the festival season.
There are many shops in Paramakkudy 36 wards like Periya Bazaar, Arch, Gandhi Statue, River Bridge, Lower Pallivasal Street, Small Market Street, Farmers Market. In these areas, all the people living in the city come to buy the necessary goods. Here, while the shops have been built up to the road, they also park their vehicles next to the shops.
Autos, cars, two-wheelers and even pedestrians cannot pass through these busy streets due to the large number of pushcarts and street stalls. Due to the narrowness of the streets, people have to suffer in traffic jams throughout the day. Municipalities, revenue and traffic police should take measures to regularize street stalls and remove encroachments.
