OGC Nice Supporters Confront Players After Sixth Consecutive Defeat, Demand Change
Nearly 400 OGC Nice supporters gathered at the club’s training center late Sunday evening to express their frustration with the team’s recent performance, specifically following a 3-1 defeat against Lorient – their sixth consecutive loss. The supporters directly challenged the players, called for the resignation of director Florian Maurice, and voiced strong support for head coach Franck Haise.
Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, approximately 400 passionate fans convened on Boulevard Jean Luciano, awaiting the arrival of the OGC Nice team bus. The gathering was organized via social media following the disheartening loss at Lorient, a result many supporters deemed unacceptable. Witnesses reported hearing fans express concerns that the players were no longer demonstrating sufficient commitment to the club, stating they “no longer respect the colors.”
The atmosphere quickly became charged as the bus arrived around 11:15 p.m. Supporters ignited flares and chanted slogans demanding improved performance from the team. Law enforcement officials were present to maintain order as players began disembarking into a dense crowd.
A notable absence from the bus was club president Fabrice Bocquet, who reportedly returned directly from Nice Airport upon the team’s arrival. This absence reportedly caused discontent within the club itself. Director Florian Maurice faced direct and pointed questioning from the supporters and was escorted to the parking lot by security personnel.
In stark contrast, head coach Franck Haise chose to engage with the supporters, remaining with the crowd to listen to their concerns and participate in dialogue. These exchanges were described as constructive, with supporters repeatedly expressing their continued support for the coach, chanting “On vous soutient” – “We support you.” The focus of the supporters’ discontent centered on the players’ attitudes and commitment.
Several players, including Jérémie Boga and Terem Moffi, were specifically targeted due to perceived displays of disrespect following previous defeats. Boga’s behavior after the loss to Metz and against Olympique de Marseille, and Moffi’s reaction to the Lorient defeat, drew particular criticism. Reports indicate that Moffi even had his bonnet removed by a supporter during the confrontation.
Once in the parking lot, additional players, such as Melvin Bard and Sofiane Diop, also engaged in conversations with the fans. Supporters voiced their desperation, stating, “We can’t take it anymore,” and pleaded for a return to the club’s traditional fighting spirit. They specifically requested that Haise give opportunities to young players from the club’s academy, expressing a preference for losing with homegrown talent rather than “starlettes.”
The confrontation, described as “virile but correct,” lasted approximately one hour. The club now faces mounting pressure to deliver a strong response in their upcoming match against Angers on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Allianz Riviera. A display of pride and renewed determination will be crucial to appease the passionate OGC Nice fanbase.
