Ogre Region Shines Bright with Festive Lights and Holiday Cheer

A dazzling display of Christmas lights and community spirit has transformed the Ogre region, marking the start of Advent and the most fantastic time of the year. The region officially illuminated its festive decorations on November 30, inviting residents and visitors alike to experiance the magic of the season.

A “Light Guide to Christmas”

The cities and parishes throughout the Ogre region have become beacons of holiday joy, adorned with countless light decorations that foster a sense of unity and anticipation. According to a statement from the Ogre County Culture and Tourism Board, the decorations are designed to create a special mood and unite the community in the shared joy of waiting for Christmas.

New Installations Illuminate the Landscape

This year’s festivities feature several new light objects designed to enhance the already impressive displays. A particularly striking addition is the “Lightning Oak” in Independence Square, a powerful symbol of strength, endurance, and connection to Latvian traditions. The oak tree, deeply rooted in Latvian culture, represents the commonality of strong roots and inner strength.

Visitors to Ogre can also step inside an impressive decorative Christmas tree ball located on Ausekļa Street 2, designed to immerse guests in the magic of the holiday lights.The structure symbolizes brightness, warmth, and togetherness, reminding everyone of the spirit of Christmas.

Experiencing the Magic: Events and Attractions

Throughout Advent, the Ogre town square will host a unique and heartwarming experience. From 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM every Sunday until Christmas, visitors can meet living sheep and shepherds of bethlehem near the “White Horse” sculpture, adding a touch of sincerity and warmth to the festive atmosphere.

Beyond Ogre, the towns of Ikškile, Ķegum, and Lielvārde are also showcasing their own magnificent light objects. Twenty-five angels are shining near churches throughout the region,spreading light,peace,and joy.

For a truly enchanting experience, a beautifully decorated Christmas carriage adorned with 60,000 lights awaits visitors in Birzgale near Rūķu Park. Guests are encouraged to admire the spectacle and even take a seat inside.

“The Story of Christmas Trees” Continues to Grow

The seventh annual “Story of Christmas Trees” campaign is adding another layer of community involvement to the festivities.More than 45 decorated trees, created by residents, non-governmental organizations, municipal institutions, and entrepreneurs, are illuminating the region. This heartfelt initiative has become an integral part of Ogre region’s holiday traditions.

An interactive map, created by the Culture and tourism Administration of Ogre region, provides a complete guide to all the decorations and illuminated places throughout the county. The map also includes descriptions of the light installations and their meanings, accessible HERE.

Santa Claus and Extended Festivities

From December 11 to 21,Santa Claus will be greeting pre-registered visitors in an ornate lodge at the starting square of the Blue Mountains in Ogre. Visitors can book appointments by calling 29106208 (weekdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM). Even outside of scheduled visits, the Blue Mountains offer a magical atmosphere with illuminated trees, flying balls, reindeer, and Santa’s sleigh.

The holiday decorations throughout the Ogre region will remain lit until the end of January, extending the season of joy. Decorations are switched on after dark, around 4:00 PM.
