The refineries for the production of sunflower oil, they started calling farmers who had previously supplied them sunflower, to ask what quantities they can get. This is what a large grain producer told us this weekend.

“They don’t talk about prices, but the fact that they have started to take an interest in us farmers again is pleasing,” he said.

He expects price negotiations to begin after the ban on the import of sunflowers and more than 20 other agricultural products from Ukraine. The ban will last until the end of June, but may be lifted after the Council of Agriculture Ministers on April 25.

Meanwhile, the European Commission is about to extend for one year the possibility of Ukraine to export goods without duties and without quotas. Bulgaria has set the condition that the ban on the import of Ukrainian wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed (not soybeans – b.r.) to the domestic market will remain until June 5, 2024, with the possibility that a similar restriction may also be imposed on the import of other products, coming from the war zone.

“It’s good that the brothers were Poles!” commented the satisfied farmer. He is convinced that if Poland had not introduced the ban, Bulgaria would not have dared to impose such a restriction on its own.
