‘Olhos do Xingu’ presents indigenous cinema in the center of SP

On Friday (27/10), at 7pm, in São Paulo (SP), Xingu+ indigenous communicators present their audiovisual creations at the Floresta no Centro store, owned by the Instituto Socioambiental (ISA). The space is located in the second storey of Galeria Metrópole, in Praça Dom José Gaspar, in the center of São Paulo.

The films “The chestnut is our seasoning” and “Kurigre: squirrel”, produced and directed by Kujaesãge Kaiabi and Kamatxi Ikpeng, will be shown. Afterwards there will be a chat with the presence of Xingu directors and Miraip Kaiabi, technical advisor at ISA and Anaya Suyà, communications advisor at Associação Terra Indígena do Xingu (ATIX). Mediation will be by Silia Moan, ISA journalist.

The Floresta no Centro space will feature the photographic exhibition ‘The AIC through the eyes of Xingu communicators’, designed by Kujaesãge Kaiabi and Kamatxi Ikpeng. There are 11 photos that tell the stories of 4 community projects developed by the indigenous people of the Xingu Territory (TIX).

The event will open with a performance by the group Lakitas Sinchi Warmis, which brings together immigrant women and daughters of immigrants who strengthen their culture through traditional Andean music. The cocktail will be hosted by Kitanda das Minas, Afro-Brazilian cuisine, which rescues ancestral knowledge through contemporary gastronomy.

Come and learn how communication is being used by Xinguans to record solutions found in villages that strengthen their ways of life in the midst of the climate emergency.
