On the value of bills and coins: cash as truth?

Almost two months after the corona pandemic reached Germany, Bundesbank board member Johannes Beermann felt compelled in March 2020 to defend cash, which is so popular with Germans: “The probability of getting infected with cash is lower than with many other everyday objects .” There is no particular risk of infection from banknotes and coins.
