According to local police, the artist died yesterday afternoon. “Liam Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in the Palermo area,” the police statement said.
As reported by the Guardian, the authorities are investigating the circumstances of Payne’s death.

In a statement yesterday, Wednesday, the police said they were called to the hotel because of “an aggressive man who was possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol“, as reported by Reuters agency.
The hotel manager testified that he heard a loud noise in the back of the hotel and when the police arrived on the scene they found out what had happened.
Payne visited Argentina with his friend and ex-partner Niall Horan who had a concert at the beginning of the month. Payne was seen dancing and singing with his party’s fans during the concert.
After his death was announced, people – including Paine’s fans – gathered outside the hotel.

Born in England in 1993, Payne joined the One Direction at just 16 years old. In 2016, he began a solo career that achieved significant musical success.
Speaking to the Guardian in 2019, he revealed that they faced mental health problems and that to manage the success of One Direction he used alcohol and drugs.
In 2017, he became a father when his wife, Cheryl Cole, gave birth to their son. The couple split in 2018, after two years of dating.
