Enough to undermine the image of the well-paid boss? One in five VSE-SME managers receives net monthly remuneration below the minimum wage, i.e. less than 1,400 euros, according to a study published this Thursday by the Confederation of SMEs (CPME).

According to this survey, the remuneration of other entrepreneurs is between 1,400 euros and 2,600 euros monthly for 31% of respondents, between 2,600 euros and 4,000 euros for 25% of them and greater than 4,000 euros for those who remain (25%).

“The result is clear: no, business leaders are not lining their pockets! », comments the CPME. “It is sometimes good to remember the difficulties faced by business leaders on whose backs the rules and constraints accumulate,” underlines the employers’ organization, which has 243,000 members employing 4 million employees. “A VSE/SME is not a large scale business,” she insists.

The study is based on an online questionnaire submitted from November 20 to December 17, 2023 to CPME member companies and which collected 1,331 responses. On January 1, the minimum growth wage (smic) was automatically increased by 1.13% due to the increase in prices. It went from 1,383.08 euros net monthly to 1,398.69 euros, an increase of 15.61 euros net per month.
