For more than a year, the South Caucasian Railway has been operating under “emergency” conditions dictated by the still ongoing epidemic of the coronavirus infection.

During that one year, the railway spent about 17 million drams on anti-coronavirus measures.

85 thousand different types of masks, more than one ton of technical alcohol and about two tons of antibacterial gel were purchased for the needs of the company’s enterprises. On its own initiative, the company transports medical workers going on business trips due to the epidemic for free, during the year it has already transported around 1800 medical workers.

The railway continues to maintain measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to counter the virus. Thus, all railway stations are ventilated and disinfected with special means, special rooms are created in the stations, which are provided if necessary to passengers or employees with signs of illness. All commuter electric trains are cleaned with disinfectant solutions before and after departure. Sanitizers are installed in all waiting rooms and carriages.

All employees working with passengers (conductors, cashiers, supervisors, station guards, locomotive crews, etc.) are provided with medical masks, protective gloves and antiseptics. At the entrances to the administrative building of the South Caucasian Railway, depots, enterprises of the line complex, workers pass a mandatory thermometer. All employees are provided with medical masks, gloves and antiseptics, as well as leaflets on the prevention of coronavirus infection. Social distance norms (1.5-2 meters) are observed in all office areas.

As Alexey Melnikov, CEO of SCR, noted, the company takes all measures to protect its employees and passengers.

“The railway is an object of strategic importance, and we must ensure its uninterrupted and safe operation in cooperation with state bodies and the Ministry of Health. Strict sanitary control and work discipline allowed us to ensure uninterrupted transport communication in the railway transport sector, which is of strategic importance for the state, in such a difficult period, without stopping work even for a day.
