Chennai: Opposition leader Palanisamy has urged the legislature to pass an emergency law to ban online gambling in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Temujin chairman Vijayakanth has welcomed the formation of a Tamil Nadu government committee to study the impact of online gambling.

The Tamil Nadu government has set up a committee to study the impact of online gambling. Statements issued by political parties in this regard stated:

Opposition leader Palanisamy: Many people who lose money due to online gambling are committing suicide. So far 23 people have been killed. Therefore, without taking the initiative to form a committee, an emergency law should be enacted to immediately ban online gambling and protect the public from online gambling.

Similarly, former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa implemented the Lottery Ticket Prohibition Act in Tamil Nadu. Strict action was also taken against those who sold lottery tickets illegally. Thus, a number in the AIADMK regime was without lottery sales. When the DMK comes back to power in 2021, the poor, the simple and the middle class will be trapped by the monster of the number one lottery. A number lottery sale would not have been possible without the help of a handful of police and ruling party executives. Those who engage in this practice should be suppressed with an iron hand.

Temutika Company President Vijayakant: In Tamil Nadu, people who lose money in online gambling continue to commit suicide. Young people, including women, are getting caught up in online gambling and ruining their lives due to lack of employment and desire to make more money.

Therefore, it is necessary to create employment for the youth. Also, young men and women need to understand that suicide is not the answer to anything. The Tamil Nadu government should immediately ban online gambling, just as many families have banned the sale of lottery tickets, which has been a source of devastation.

On behalf of Temujin, I welcome the fact that Chief Minister Stalin has ordered the formation of a panel headed by retired Judge Chandru to recommend legislation to ban online gambling.

Similarly, Humanitarian People’s Party leader MH Jawaharlal Nehru has welcomed the government’s order to set up a committee to study the impact of online gambling.
