The local police, who first investigated the case, and the crime branch, which later took over the investigation, believe Michelle’s committed suicide. But the family rejects it. Shaji Varghese’s father claims that there is no reason for his daughter to commit suicide and that the investigation has failed. The injuries to Michelle’s body have not been properly investigated. The family said the FIR stated that Michelle had left the hostel after seven o’clock, although it was clear on CCTV that she was at church.

Thiruvananthapuram: The police have taken into custody the young man who was with the woman who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Thampanoor, Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased was identified as Gayatri Devi, a native of Kattakada. Praveen surrendered at the Kollam Paravur police station around noon. He was taken from Paravur to Thiruvananthapuram. Defendant Praveen confessed to the police that he had killed Gayatri by suffocation. The murder took place during a verbal dispute. The young woman’s body was transferred for postmortem after the completion of the inquest proceedings.
Gayatri was found dead in a hotel room at Thampanoor Aristo Junction around 1 am. An anonymous call came to the hotel reception at 12.30pm that a woman had died in room 107. According to staff, police arrived and opened the room. Gayatri’s body was lying on the bed. There were no signs of wrestling in the room. The body was found foaming at the mouth. It is doubtful whether the poison went inside or died. The room was locked from the outside. The Kattakada police had received a complaint yesterday that Gayathri, a native of Veeranakavu, was missing
Praveen took the room at 10 am yesterday. According to police, Gayatri arrived at around 12 noon. Praveen left at 5.30 pm but did not return. Praveen, who surrendered at Kollam Paravur station, has been taken into police custody and is being questioned. Both were employees of a jewelry store in the city. Gayatri quit her job eight months ago. Praveen was shifted to a showroom in Tamil Nadu yesterday. It is learned that the two met yesterday before Praveen left for Tamil Nadu.
Married, Praveen has two children. Police have received photos of Praveen and Gayatri tying the knot at the church. Police suspect that it was Praveen who called Gayatri yesterday to announce her death. A senior police team, including the city police commissioner, inspected the scene. The forensic team also conducted an examination.
