True to the motto “Day of Open Music Schools”, those interested once again had the opportunity to get to know various instruments. A wide range of events was presented last Saturday in the House of Music and Culture in Vitis. There was a lot to try out, from trumpet to accordion, guitar, piano and violin. The desire to make music was awakened in both children and adults.
Afterwards, music school teacher Martina Wurz and her five protégés organized the “Folk Music Live” concert, a preparation for a performance in Krems at the Haus der Regions.
Music school director Manfred Kreutzer welcomed the guests, including association chairwoman Mayor Anette Töpfl and Rafael Ecker from MKM Music & Art Schools Management Lower Austria.
Changes in the music school association from autumn
Manfred Kreutzer then gave some insights into the upcoming innovations in the music school association. From September 2024, the eight existing communities of Allentsteig, Echsenbach, Göpfritz/Wild, Hirschbach, Schwarzenau, Vitis, Waidhofen/Thaya-Land and Windigsteig will be joined by the communities of Dietmanns and Groß-Siegharts. Teachers and students from both locations will be integrated into the association, as he emphasized.
Starting in the fall, the scope will include ten municipalities, 32 teachers, 650 students in main subjects, 200 students in collaborations, over 30 main subjects and numerous additional subjects and ensembles.
Afterwards, the young talents Johanna Zimmermann, Lorenz Wallner, Lena Koppensteiner, Alexander Kolm and Emelie Hölzl demonstrated their musical talent on the Styrian harmonica. Depending on the age category, the protagonists played three to five pieces from memory and solo. The listeners were delighted with the “Leberknödelwalzer” or the “Landler aus Vitis” and gave enthusiastic applause.
After the concert was over, the youngest participant, seven-year-old Lorenz Wallner, was pleased to receive the elementary examination junior certificate.
