Train General Coach: If you have traveled by train 10-20 years ago, you must have tasted the puri-sabzi sold at railway stations. There were some puri trolleys at every station, on which hot puris were served. It was kept in leaves and given with vegetables. It was not only fresh but also cheap. However, later the Railways removed the puri-sabzi trolley from major stations. Now once again there is talk of selling puri-sabzi packets at big stations.

highlights

  • Puri-sabzi packets have started being sold once again at big stations like New Delhi.
  • At present the emphasis of Railways is on passengers traveling in general compartment.
  • For their convenience, packets of Puri are being sold in front of general coaches.

Railways has once again talked about taking care of ‘poor’ train passengers. Yes, the poor train passenger means the passengers traveling in ‘Second Class’ or ‘General Coach’. If you want to see their miserable condition then reach railway stations like New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar etc. From there, try the general compartment of any popular train going towards the east. These poor people are badly crammed in this. The situation is such that passengers are crammed even in the toilets of the general compartment. Now, Railways has talked about selling special packets of Puri-Sabzi for the passengers traveling in this general coach.

What is the cost of common passenger for Railways?

These days, Railway Board officials sitting in comfortable and air-conditioned rooms are missing the passengers traveling in general coaches and sleeper coaches. Some people attribute this to ‘General Election’. They say that as the heat wave is increasing in the country, people living in ACs are not coming out to vote. The ‘common man’ traveling in these ‘general’ coaches is ahead in voting. Railway Minister is also a political person. He knows the importance of those traveling in general coach. Therefore, now arrangements are being made for cheap puri-sabzi for the passengers of general coach.
What is the railway system?
This news has been published in today’s newspapers. It is reported that keeping in mind the general coach passengers, arrangements are being made to sell cheap puri-sabzi packets at 100 railway stations of the country. This packet of Rs 20 will contain seven puris, vegetables and pickles. Besides, arrangements are being made to sell Chole-Bhatura, Pav Bhaji, Rajma rice, Chole rice etc. for Rs 50. Rail Neer is also being arranged for them. So that they get food and drink during the journey.
What is the condition of the general coach?
Once you see the general coach of the popular train of Bihar-UP, you will start feeling nauseous. Forget traveling in this train, you won’t even be able to enter. Whether you travel on this train for one hour or 24 hours, you will not be able to expel even nature’s call i.e. feces and urine. Because even the passengers remain crammed in the toilet of this compartment. Now imagine how their journey would have been?
The concept of Janata Khana is not new
Cheap puri-sabzi packets in a moving train is not a new concept. In fact, when the Janata government was formed in 1977, the concept of ‘Janata Express’ and ‘Janata Khana’ came into existence. Janata Express had only second class coaches. Only common people or poor people used to travel in it. First class was for the rich. Similarly, Janata Khana means a packet of cheap puri-sabzi. Various types of dishes were already arranged for the rich. Over time, public food became a rare thing for railway stations and trains. There is an effort to get this started again.
