Twenty-seven Chilean opposition senators acknowledged this Friday Formally – through a public declaration –Edmundo González as the president-elect of Venezuela, “as did the governments of Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and the United States.”
According to instructions Once upon a timethe statement notes that “This recognition underlines the importance of respecting the popular will and strengthening democratic institutions in our region. The evidence of his victory is overwhelming, as shown by the minutes to which the world has had access. It is essential to respect the democratic will of the Venezuelan people, who decided, through the ballot box, to put an end to the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.”
The text states that “We senators express our unrestricted defense of democratic values, freedom and the defense of human rights.”
The declaration is signed by Senators Carmen Gloria Aravena (Republican); Juan Castro Prieto (PSC); Francisco Chahuan (RN); Juan Antonio Coloma (UDI); Luciano Cruz-Coke (UDI); Jose Miguel Durana (UDI); Luz Ebensperger (UDI); Rojo Edwards (PSC); Sergio Gahona (RN); and Rodrigo Galilea (RN). Also signed by Senators Maria Jose Gatica (RN); Felipe Kast (EVO); Sebastian Keitel (IND-EVO); Alejandro Kusanovic (IND-RN); Carlos Kuschel (RN); Javier Macaya (UDI); Ivan Moreira (UDI); Paulina Nunez (RN); Manuel Jose Ossandon (RN); Rafael Prohens (RN); Kenneth Pugh (IND-RN); Ximena Rincon (Democrat); David Sandoval (UDI); Gustavo Sanhueza (UDI); Enrique Van Rysselberghe (UDI). Likewise, the president and vice president of the Corporation, José García Ruminot (RN) and Matías Walker (Democrat), respectively.
Along with the statement, they sent a letter to the President of the Republic, Gabril Boric, requesting that the Government of Chile also recognize Edmundo González as the elected president of Venezuela.
