Propaganda posters of the ruling Fidesz-Hungarian Civil Union party were attacked by vandals in the center of Budapest in the first days of the campaign for elections to the European Parliament and local authorities that began in Hungary.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, representatives of Fidesz reported this, the police arrested one of the attackers, who is probably a supporter of the opposition.

Several incidents occurred, in particular, in the 8th district of Budapest, which has the historical name Josefváros. The ruling party’s candidate for the post of municipal head, Demeter Szilágyi, blamed this on his rival, the current head of the municipality, András Pico, who enjoys the support of a coalition of opposition parties.

“Mr. Pico and his famous gang started a campaign. Already on the first day they tore down the posters. Thanks to the police who caught the first vandal. They can break the windows in our office, tear down our posters, but we will just continue to work because we want change in this area,” Szilagyi wrote on his Facebook page. He accompanied the publication with a series of photographs of Fidesz propaganda posters that had been torn down or damaged on the city streets.
