The legendary TV host and actress, Oprah Winfrey, recently made headlines not just for her upcoming film project but also for her impressive weight loss journey. During the world premiere of “The Color Purple,” Winfrey shared details about her weight transformation, revealing that it’s been a well-rounded effort.
“It’s not one thing, it’s everything,” Winfrey said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The 69-year-old businesswoman also confessed to hitting the treadmill before gracing the purple carpet at the event.
Aside from her weight loss success, Winfrey is also busy producing the upcoming 2023 movie musical adaptation of “The Color Purple.” The original 1985 film, in which Winfrey starred as Sofia, is based on Alice Walker’s 1982 novel and has been adapted into a Broadway production.
The star-studded cast includes Danielle Brooks in the role of Sofia, while Fantasia Barrino Taylor takes the lead role of Celie. Speaking about watching Brooks on set, Winfrey expressed deep joy in passing the role on to her. She also praised Barrino Taylor’s performance at the Elle Women in Hollywood event as a “phoenix rising in this moment.”
The movie, set to hit theaters on Dec. 25, has generated much excitement from fans who can’t wait to see the iconic story brought to life once again.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Winfrey has been candid about her struggles with weight and the media scrutiny that comes with it. Reframing conversations around obesity and exploring the safety and efficacy of weight loss aids is another area Winfrey has been actively involved in through her platform.
Despite the challenges of navigating weight loss in the public eye, Winfrey remains committed to her health and wellness journey. When she rejoined WW (formerly WeightWatchers) in 2016, she expressed her commitment to the plan, stating that she felt like it was a lifestyle change she would stick to for the long term.
With her openness about her experiences and her continued success in various professional ventures, Oprah Winfrey continues to inspire and empower audiences around the world.
