by Sofia Alvarez

BUENOS AIRES, August 17, 2023 — Argentine journalist Oscar “El Negro” González Oro sparked concern among fans this week with a series of poignant posts on social media, leading to speculation about his well-being and prompting discussion on a television program.

A Message of Peace and Reflection

The veteran broadcaster shared a poem fragment and a reflective message, prompting a wave of support and analysis.

  • González Oro posted a poem excerpt expressing acceptance and gratitude for life.
  • The posts were analyzed on the program Puro Show, with commentators suggesting a possible farewell.
  • Psychologist Gabriel Cartaña suggested the posts could indicate depression or a natural reflection on aging.

González Oro shared a fragment of a poem with deeply emotional resonance: “Very close to my sunset I bless you life because you never gave me failed hope or unjust work or undeserved sorrow… I loved, I was loved, the sun caressed my face. “Life, you owe me nothing, life, we are at peace.” He followed this with a message stating, “I know that my name will resonate in dear ears. Don’t let that happen. Say it once a day. I received a lot throughout this life. You made me live forever.”

Analysis on Puro Show

The posts quickly gained attention, becoming a topic of discussion on the program Puro Show. Journalist Nancy Duré commented, “What it implies, if one reads it literally like that, is that something could be happening to him, that it could be a kind of farewell.” Another commentator, known only as Seven, suggested that a decline in professional success might be contributing to González Oro’s state of mind, stating, “He is a guy who had everything, awards, success, and unfortunately that mega success no longer accompanies him today, and I suppose that in the head of someone like that must affect you.”

Professional Perspective on Emotional State

Psychologist Gabriel Cartaña offered a professional assessment, suggesting the possibility of major depressive disorder or dysthymia. “Major depressive disorder is very deep and intense depression,” Cartaña explained. “Dysthymia is similar, but longer in time, a melancholic and dull state that is sustained.” He emphasized that such feelings can stem from “a multiplicity of causes that come together.”

Cartaña also noted the role of aging, suggesting that “life retires us at some point,” and emphasized the importance of support, stating, “The key is not to leave him alone. What happens to him has a solution. It is sad that he does not solve something that does have a solution.”
