A powerful testament to the enduring spirit of Ukrainian artistry, four pianists originally from Kharkiv will perform at Hall 3 of Gare Lille Europe, showcasing a repertoire honoring both Ukrainian and French composers. The concert, part of the broader cultural initiative “From Kharkiv to Lille, culture in resistance,” underscores the vital role of the arts in times of conflict and displacement.
The performance features a diverse lineup of talent, including 11-year-old Nora Kostenko, the 2025 winner of the “Piano en gare” competition, who will share the stage with her sister, Michelle Kostenko. Following a performance at the Lille Opera, the acclaimed Kharkiv Piano Duo, comprised of Oleh Kopeliuk and Ihor Sediuk, will extend their reach to the Lille Europe Station as part of the regional tour supporting the Lille Opera’s production of “Bluebeard’s Castle.”
A Collaboration Rooted in Support
The event is a collaborative effort, organized by Gares & Connexions with crucial support from the Ukrainian Institute and the French Institute. This partnership highlights the international commitment to amplifying Ukrainian voices and fostering cultural exchange. The concert is presented as a key component of “Le Voyage en Ukraine,” a larger cultural season dedicated to exploring Ukrainian arts and heritage.
The choice of Lille as a host city is particularly significant. The region has become a focal point for welcoming Ukrainians displaced by the ongoing conflict, making the concert a poignant symbol of solidarity and resilience.
Showcasing Ukrainian and French Musical Heritage
The program promises a compelling blend of musical traditions. By featuring both Ukrainian and French composers, the concert aims to build bridges between cultures and demonstrate the universal language of music. The inclusion of a young talent like Nora Kostenko, a rising star in the piano world, adds an inspiring dimension to the event.
The Kharkiv Piano Duo’s participation in the “Bluebeard’s Castle” tour further demonstrates the depth of Ukrainian musical expertise and its integration into the European artistic landscape. This performance is not merely a concert; it’s a statement – a vibrant expression of cultural identity and a powerful act of resistance through art.
