Literally hours after the caretaker government came to power on Tuesday, the first disagreement between the old and new finance minister occurred, which on Wednesday turned into a verbal skirmish between GERB-SDS and PP-DB.
The dispute is about the size of the fiscal reserve. When handing over the post to acting Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova, the former Asen Vassilev emphasized that he was leaving the state finances in good shape and gave the example of the fiscal reserve, which was BGN 9.9 billion.
A few hours later, Petkova said that 9.9 billion was the amount at the end of March, but by April 8 it was already 6.7 billion BGN. The difference of 3.2 billion BGN made the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov to express concern about state finances.
“I have been talking about the budget for a month, when I emphasized that there are problems in the Ministry of Finance. The money is gone. 2-3 days ago I told you that the NA should show character and listen to the IMF report. Let’s stop with that crazy spending of money, to reduce the deficit, but instead it turned out that several billion were spent in the last days and they misled us that we have 9 billion,” Borisov said in the parliament.
According to his words, in other times there was a scandal for BGN 20 million, and now several billion have gone in a few days and this was not even known.
