Ukrainian Attack on Russian Territory: Residents Describe the Horror
According to Russian users of the Telegram social network, Ukrainian forces have taken control of settlements in Russia‘s Kursk region. Soldiers were also supposed to occupy a measuring station in the city of Suja, a key transit point for natural gas flowing from Russia to Europe. The Ukrainians have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack. In the meantime, the Russian exile server Meduza published the testimony of a woman who fled Suzhi with her entire family.
Journalists from the Russian independent server Verstka were supposed to talk to Anna (name changed). The woman claimed she fled on Tuesday after gunfire erupted in the city. Local authorities had not issued any evacuation orders at the time. Her family made the decision to flee on their own.
“At three in the morning we were woken up by the sound of shots being fired at us,” Anna claimed. “The sirens went off, the air defense system was activated, and we all went down to the basement, including our baby, who is practically still an infant. We also brought my mother, who is over 80 years old, my husband’s parents, my sister, our dogs and cats. It wasn’t even a cellar, rather a damp place where we have canned goods. If there was a strike somewhere nearby, it would have simply buried us,” Anna confided.
