The Weightlifting Federation announced on Wednesday that the national team will begin its campaign in the Asian Championships.

The head of the Iraqi Weightlifting Federation, Muhammad Kadhim Mazal, said in a statement received by the (INA): “Our national weightlifting team will begin its journey in the Asian Weightlifting Championship qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics tomorrow, Thursday.”

He added, “The weightlifter, Safaa Rashid, will participate with a weight of 89 kg tomorrow, Thursday, while the participation of both our lifters, Haider Hussein Askar, with a weight of 102 kg, and Qasim Hassan, with a weight of 102 kg, will take place the day after tomorrow, Friday. As for the participation of our weight lifter, Ammar Ali Yusr, with a weight of 109 kg, it will take place next Saturday.”

He pointed out that “the national team made all preparations for the tournament during the past weeks, as it entered more than one camp under the supervision of coaches Muhammad Jawad, Ammar Yusr, and Haider Zidan in order to raise the technical and physical level of the players,” indicating that “the numbers recorded during the past camps qualify the team to achieve medals.” “It is appropriate for the sport of Iraqi weightlifting.”
