The recent rise in respiratory diseases in China is a common problem faced by all countries and one that Chinese authorities have under effective control, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.
The World Health Organization (WHO) last week asked China for detailed information on the rise in respiratory illnesses and reports of pneumonia outbreaks in children.
But a WHO official said on Monday that the rise in illnesses in China is not as high as before the Covid-19 pandemic and reiterated that no new or unusual pathogens have been found in the recent cases.
“Recently, we have seen some outbreaks of flu cases among children in certain parts of China. In fact, this is a very common phenomenon in many countries, and in China it has been brought under effective control,” Wang told reporters at UN headquarters in New York, where he chaired a UN Security Council session on the Israel-Israel conflict. Hamas.
“China’s interactions with the international community will not be affected by any factors and we welcome more visits from friends from all over the world,” he said.
Both China and the WHO have faced questions about the transparency of reporting on the first cases of Covid-19 that emerged in the city of Wuhan, in central China, in late 2019.
