Kuipers’ stance differs from Germany’s policy, where 109 state-funded post-COVID clinics have been established and experimental treatments, including the use of Prednisone, are being explored and reimbursed.
In response to the minister’s decision, Diewke De Haen, director of patient organization PostCovidNL, expressed frustration, stating that the patients cannot wait for extensive research to be completed before receiving treatment. De Haen urged the Netherlands to follow Germany’s example and adopt proven treatments as quickly as possible.
Kuipers, however, maintains the Netherlands’ perspective, stating that if hospitals wish to pursue experimental treatments, they must finance them independently and patients must consent to the associated risks.
