Over 30 percent of electricity worldwide is generated from renewable energy sources. This is according to a report published today by the Ember research center, DPA reported.
The share of energy produced from renewable sources has grown from 19 percent in 2000 to over 30 percent in 2023, BTA reports. This growth is entirely due to the increased use of wind and solar energy, the DPA points out.
“Thanks to the increase in the share of wind and solar energy, for the first time in 2023 more than 30 percent of electricity worldwide will be generated from renewable energy sources,” states a press release issued by Ember.
The share of hydroelectric power plants (HPP) and other renewable sources in total electricity production declined last year, the report said.
Ember suggests that the global production of electricity generated by the use of fossil fuels could start to decline in 2024.
