Nearly 7.3 million Ukrainian citizens have entered Romania in the past two years because of the war launched by Russia against Ukraine.

From February 10, 2022 (the period before the conflict) to February 2024, 7,292,211 Ukrainian citizens entered Romania at the national level, the Chief Inspectorate of the Border Police announced today, BTA reports.

In the last week (February 4-9), more than 38,000 Ukrainian citizens entered Romania, with the largest number registered on Friday – 6,933 people, and the smallest – on Tuesday – 6,065 people.

According to a release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the occupancy rate at the General Immigration Inspectorate’s accommodation centers is currently 29.1 percent.

Not a single Ukrainian citizen has applied for asylum in Romania in the last 24 hours, the ministry notes.

“Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, 4,458 Ukrainian citizens have requested asylum in Romania. They benefit from all the rights provided for in the national legislation,” notes the quoted source.
